Manufacturing process
- Trim hanging strands and smooth out the exterior surface using sharp scissors to bring out design clarity.
- Wash the carpet with cleanser and rinse with clean water to remove dirt and extra cleanser.
- Dry the carpet under sunlight for four to five days.
- Perform rug shaving and leveling to enhance the design, tones, and pile height.
- Stretch the rug from all sides using a metal frame for a day or two to ensure precise size and shape.
- Apply protective fluoric-chemicals to preserve appearance and protect against discoloration and soiling.
- Apply backing systems such as a cushion, bonding adhesive, or synthetic latex/vinyl lamination for structural stability.
Market
India is the largest maker and exporter of floor coverings globally in terms of volume and value, with around 80% of rugs made in India being exported. The domestic market size is about Rs 200 crores and growing rapidly based on retail expansion.
