Manufacturing process

  1. Untie bristle fibre bundles and subject fibres to a combing process using steel spikes to remove pith, short fibres, and parallelize the material.
  2. Saw wooden logs to size with a band saw and circular saw, then shape and plane them using a thickness planer, wood turning lathe, and jig saw.
  3. Drill holes into the shaped wood sections using a sensitive drilling machine.
  4. Cut combed coir fibres to suitable length, form small bunches, and pin them together into tufts using bent GI wire pieces.
  5. Press the fibre tufts into the drilled wood holes by hammering at the bend portions of the GI wire.
  6. Shear the top portions of the brush using a top shearing machine or scissors to achieve uniform pile height.

Market

Demand for coir brushes is steady due to their utility in household and industrial cleaning applications as eco-friendly alternatives to plastic brushes.
