Manufacturing process
- Prepare an acid copper sulphate electrolyte solution inside glass-lined special electrolysis vessels.
- Perform electrolysis where copper is deposited on electrodes as a fine powder using aluminum cathodes and copper or pure lead anodes.
- Detach the copper powder from the electrodes periodically using wooden-handled aluminum scraps so it falls to the bottom.
- Centrifuge and wash the removed powder with water until it is free of copper sulphate.
- Dry the cleaned powder on trays in an electrically heated oven with forced air circulation at 60°C to 100°C.
Market
The indigenous production of copper powder is around 7000 tonnes per annum against an estimated demand of 15000 tonnes per annum, indicating significant market potential.
